Employees of the Miami-Dade County Housing Agency and their immediate family members are generally prohibited from taking part in the Section 8 program administered by the County Housing Agency. For the most part, Section 2-11.1 (c) of the County Ethics Code prevents County employees and their immediate family members from entering into contracts with their own departments. Typically, County employees and immediate family members who are not employed by the County Housing Agency are promptly approved.
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is sponsored by the federal government to assist low-income families and individuals pay monthly rental or mortgage fees. The Miami-Dade County Housing Agency is one of several local agencies that administers the federal program.
County employees who participate in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program administered by the County Housing Agency must first obtain an approval letter from the Ethics Commission using the Section 8 Form. An approval letter verifies that a County employee has no ethics conflicts that would prevent him or her from entering into a contract with the County Housing Agency.
For additional information regarding potential ethics conflicts related to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, please contact the Ethics Commission.
