"Right On!" to Ethics Luncheon Scheduled for May 29, 2008
May 29, 2008, Miami, FL – “Right On!” to Ethics Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the UM Hurricane 100 Club.
The Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust, in collaboration with Do The Right Thing and Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS), will host a luncheon in honor of students in the MDCPS Alternative Education Program who were specially selected to participate in the Commission’s Model Student Ethics Program this spring.
Over a period of ten weeks, the students participated in workshops, group discussions and mock cases in order to better understand the principles of ethical behavior and making ethical choices. The program was conducted by Mr. Robert Thompson, Ethics Commission Outreach Coordinator.
Luncheon highlights will include a keynote address from Mr. Randy Shannon, Head Football Coach, University of Miami. Following his remarks, awards will be presented to the students by Chief John F. Timoney, City of Miami Police Department; Deputy Chief Frank Fernandez, City of Miami Police Department; Robert Meyers, Executive Director, Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust; Robert Thompson, Outreach Coordinator, Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust; and Hemant Patel, President, Do The Right Thing Board of Directors. Dr. Anita Cava, UM Ethics Program, will close the event with special remarks.

The Ethics Commission was created in 1996 as an independent agency with advisory and quasi-judicial powers. It is composed of five members, serving staggered terms of four years each. Through a program of education and outreach, the Commission seeks to empower the community and bolster public trust.
