October 2, 2008, Miami, FL – The Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust will hold a two-hour Campaign Skills Seminar 6:30PM-8:30PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. This seminar will provide essential information to declared candidates, individuals considering running for office, or to anyone who needs to understand the legal and ethical obligations of seeking elective office. The event is free and open to the public.
Topics covered by featured speakers will include: financing campaigns, reporting and disclosure requirements, collecting and expending campaign funds and ethical campaigning.
Invited speakers include: Robert Meyers, Executive Director, Ethics Commission; Howard Lenard, General Counsel, Miami-Dade County League of Cities; and Joe Centorino, Chief Public Corruption Unit, State Attorney’s Office.

The Ethics Commission was created in 1996 as an independent agency with advisory and quasi-judicial powers. It is composed of five members, serving staggered terms of four years each. Through a program of education and outreach, the Commission seeks to empower the community and bolster public trust.
